Six Injured in San Francisco Area Car Accident

By

Six people were injured in a San Francisco car accident that involved several vehicles including a large commercial truck. The Gilroy Dispatch reports that the crash involved five vehicles and occurred the morning of March 30, 2010 on Pacheco Pass. A 36-year-old man driving a three-axle big-rig apparently plowed through three vehicles that were stopped for traffic at the intersection. The impact of the crash sent the stopped vehicles into each other. Six people sustained injuries. One woman who was the occupant of a 1996 Buick sustained a broken leg. All injured victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

I sympathize with all the victims who were injured in this crash. I hope they all make a speedy and complete recovery. They will be in my prayers.

Car Accidents

There were two fatalities and 160 injuries involving car accidents in Gilroy, according to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In Santa Clara County as a whole, 94 people died and 6,770 were injured as a result of car accidents in 2008.

Causes and Liability Issues

Officials are apparently still looking into what caused the truck driver to slam into these stopped vehicles. Based on the news report, it appears that the truck driver was not paying attention to the traffic ahead. I trust officials are looking into whether the truck driver was impaired, distracted, fatigued, sleepy, speeding or otherwise negligent in this case.

If the truck driver was at fault, both he and his employer, the trucking firm, could be held liable for the accident and resulting injuries. An experienced San Francisco personal injury lawyer will be able to advise victims and their families about their legal rights and options. Also, in such cases, injured victims can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, pain and suffering, hospitalization costs, physical therapy, loss of earnings and other related damages.
