A woman in her 30s was struck and critically injured by a hit-and-run driver in Westminster while walking her dogs.

Search for Driver in Westminster Hit and Run

Police said freeway construction has led to an increase in traffic for detouring cars in the neighborhood. The pedestrian was known to walk her three dogs in the neighborhood each morning. Surveillance video shows the pedestrian was looking both ways before crossing. While crossing, she seems to have realized the vehicle was bearing down on her and began to run, but was struck and severely injured.

The victim was reported in critical condition at an area trauma center, but was expected to survive. The driver fled the scene. The hit-and-run vehicle has custom silver wheels and a temporary registration in the lower right corner of the front windshield, police said. They also said the SUV has damage to the hood and left front corner. Anyone with information is urged to call Westminster police at 714-548-3770.

We offer our thoughts and prayers to the injured victim. We are relieved she is expected to survive and wish her the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

If You Have Been Injured in a Hit and Run

It is illegal under California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) to leave the scene of an injury or fatal crash. If you or a loved one has been injured in a hit-and-run crash, there are a number of steps you can take to protect your legal rights. First, make sure you get medical attention, treatment, and care for your injuries. Try to collect as much evidence from the scene as possible including debris left behind by the hit-and-run vehicle and photographs of the accident scene.

Talk to eyewitnesses to see if anyone got information such as a physical description of the driver, the color, make and model of the vehicle involved, and a license plate number. Even a partial license plate number could be extremely helpful when it comes to tracking hit-and-run drivers.

Contact an experienced Orange County car accident lawyer who will stay abreast of the official investigation and help protect your rights. A knowledgeable lawyer will also be able to advise you regarding how your auto insurance policy might work in a hit-and-run case where the driver hasn’t been apprehended or when the at-fault driver is uninsured or underinsured.
