San Bernardino Car Accident Injures Three

Three people were injured in a San Bernardino car accident the morning of May 26, 2010, according to a news report in the Victorville Daily Press. The injury accident occurred on Highway 395 in Hesperia and involved three vehicles. A 2009 Ford pickup truck was traveling south on the highway, between Bear Valley Road and Main Street, when the driver got distracted, crossed the double yellow lines, and entered into the path of a Lincoln Town Car that was going north on the highway.

The driver of the Lincoln sustained major injuries in the collision. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials said the driver of a Kia who swerved to avoid the wreckage almost fell into the California Aqueduct. Thankfully, the vehicle was held back by three strands of barbed wire. The driver of the Kia was also injured, but the extent of his injuries is not known.

My heart goes out to the injured victims. I wish them all the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 10 fatalities and 300 injuries involving car accidents in Hesperia. In San Bernardino County as a whole, 263 people died and 8,503 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.

Distracted Driver

If the details of this news report are accurate, the driver of the Ford pickup truck was “momentarily distracted” at the time, which apparently caused him or her to cross the double yellow lines and crash into the Lincoln. It is not clear exactly what the driver was doing at the time that caused the distraction. Was he or she texting or on the cell phone? Did the driver reach over to pick up something? It could have been any number of things.

Fault and Liability

However, if the driver of the Ford pickup is determined to have been at fault, then, he or she could be held liable for the injuries and damages caused to the other drivers here. Injured victims in such cases could seek compensation to cover medical expenses, lost wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation, physical therapy and other related damages. Victims or their families would be well-advised to contact an experienced California personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation, analyze all aspects of the incident and make sure that the negligent parties are held accountable.

What are some of the steps you would take to avoid any type of distraction while driving?
