Police Looking for Two Drivers in Fatal Sun Valley Hit and Run Crash

Police in Sun Valley are looking for two drivers in connection with a hit-and-run pedestrian accident that has left a 60-year-old woman dead. According to a report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the fatal collision occurred Feb. 26 when a Toyota Camry that was traveling north on Glenoaks Boulevard struck a pedestrian who police say was crossing outside a marked crosswalk.

Fatal Injuries

The pedestrian landed on the roadway and was struck by a second and third vehicle. The driver of the Camry stopped right away and remained at the scene. However, the second and third vehicles fled the scene and were described as a dark gray SUV and a dark SUV. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released. Anyone with information is asked to contact LAPD at 818-644-8117. Officials are also offering a reward of up to $50,000 to anyone who provides information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of the deceased victim for their tragic loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Laws and Liability Issues

LAPD officials are reminding drivers that if they become involved in a collision, they are required under the laws to pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so. Motorists are also required to notify emergency services and remain at the scene to identity themselves. California Vehicle Code 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.” Drivers are required to stop after an accident even if it is later established that the collision was not their fault.

Families of hit-and-run victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles hit and run lawyer who will remain on top of the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. An experienced car accident lawyer will also be able to advise victims about how their own auto insurance policy might apply to a hit and run crash where the driver was not apprehended, or in a case where the at-fault party was uninsured or underinsured.
