Pedestrian Killed in Los Angeles Hit and Run Crash

Police are looking for a hit and run driver who they say fatally struck a 33-year-old man in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of South Los Angeles. According to a KTLA news report, the fatal crash occurred early morning on May 1st as the victim as walking in a crosswalk at the intersection of West 92nd Street and South Western Avenue. Two vehicles were traveling northbound on Western Avenue when one of them struck the victim, LAPD officials said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials did not provide a description of the vehicles, both of which left the crash site. Investigators are not sure which vehicle struck the victim. So, they would like to talk to both the drivers. An investigation is ongoing.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of this deceased victim. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

California Laws

Based on this news report, it appears that one of the vehicles struck and fatally injured the man who was walking in a marked crosswalk at the intersection. Under California Vehicle Code Section 21950 (a), motorists are required to stop and yield the right of way to a pedestrian who is walking in a marked or unmarked crosswalk.

These motorists are also failed to stop and remain at the scene of the accident, which is required under California Vehicle Code Section 20001(a). Failing to do so will most likely result in a felony hit and run charge, particularly when someone has been seriously injured or killed in the crash.

Justice for Victims and Families

We hope officials are able to locate the at-fault party in this case and hold that individual accountable. In such cases, families of deceased victims may be able to seek compensation from the at-fault driver as well. However, when the driver is not identified, they may be able to seek compensation from the uninsured motorist clause of their own auto insurance policy.

Injured hit-and-run victims or families of deceased victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles hit and run lawyer who will help stay on top of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are preserved. The best law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to injured victims and their families.
