Pedestrian Injured in Orange Hit and Run Crash

A pedestrian was seriously injured in a car accident, which officials said, involved a hit and run driver. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the major injury collision occurred early morning on May 3 near the intersection of Lewis Street and El Prado Avenue. Officers who arrived at the scene found the pedestrian lying in the roadway and seriously injured. He was transported to an area hospital where he remained. Officials said he was being treated for extensive injuries.

Based on preliminary investigations, police say the vehicle that collided with the pedestrian was traveling south on Lewis Street. However, so far, no witnesses have come forward and a detailed description of the vehicle or its driver is not immediately available. Police are still working to identify a suspect. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact Orange police at 714-744-7444.

Our thoughts and prayers are with this injured victim. We wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Hit and Run Law

Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the vehicle that struck and seriously injured the pedestrian left the scene without stopping to help the victim. Under California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a), it is illegal to leave the scene of an injury or fatal crash. Motorists are required to stop at the scene, remain until officials arrive, exchange pertinent information with other parties and most importantly, obtain some type of aid for the injured victim.

In this case, the victim was lying in the roadway exposed to further danger. It is fortunate that officials arrived and transported him to the hospital. The situation could have been far worse had he been struck by another vehicle.

Justice for Victims

When it comes to hit and run crashes, it is the injured victims and their families who suffer the most because they are faced with mounting medical expenses, inability to work or pay bills while being unable to hold the at-fault party accountable. In such cases, injured victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Orange County car accident lawyer who will stay abreast of the official investigation and help protect their rights every step of the way.

A knowledgeable hit and run lawyer can also help families seek compensation through their own insurance company, especially in cases where the driver hasn’t been identified or where the at-fault driver is uninsured or underinsured.
