Pastry Chef Killed in Koreatown Hit and Run Crash

Leonidas Accip, 38, was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Koreatown when he was riding his bike to work with his 18-year-old brother, Wilder.

According to a Fox 11 Los Angeles news report, the fatal collision occurred early on the morning of April 26 on Olympic Boulevard. Accip was riding with his brother when they were both struck by a Jeep Cherokee.

The driver did not stop. Leonidas did not survive, while his brother suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Ongoing Investigation

The brothers were both heading to work at Paris Baguette Bakery, about four blocks from where they were hit. No description was available of the suspect. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call West Traffic Division detectives at 213-473-0234 or 877-LAPD-247. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to people who provide information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of a hit-and-run driver.

We offer our deepest condolences to the Accip family for their terrible loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. We also wish the injured victim the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Leaving the Scene of a Crash

Leaving the scene of an injury or fatal crash is illegal under California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a). The law requires all motorists to stop immediately at the scene of a crash and remain at the scene until authorities arrive. They are also required to exchange pertinent information with other parties involved and, most importantly, render aid to the injured victims.

In cases where the at-fault driver has not been apprehended, families of deceased hit-and-run victims may be able to seek compensation through their own auto insurance policy. In the aftermath of a fatal hit-and-run crash, families face significant and unforeseen expenses such as medical bills and funeral costs.

Justice for Victims and Families

In addition, they may also be looking at the loss of a breadwinner or primary wage earner, which could cause significant financial strain. Injured victims of a hit-and-run crash could be looking at mounting medical expenses and being unable to work because of the physical and emotional trauma of being involved in a crash.

In such cases, injured victims and families of deceased victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles hit-and-run lawyer who will stay abreast of the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.
