Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Orange County Car Accident

A man was severely injured in an Orange County car accident after his motorcycle crashed into a disabled vehicle. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury motorcycle accident occurred in the northbound lanes of the 55 Freeway at La Veta Avenue, the night of October 18, 2011. California Highway Patrol officials say that the disabled vehicle was in a freeway lane at the time of the accident. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment. It is not clear why the disabled vehicle was in traffic lanes or why the victim was unable to avoid the collision. An investigation is ongoing.

My thoughts and prayers are with the injured victim of this Orange County accident. I wish him the very best for a complete and speedy recovery.

Orange County Motorcycle Accident Statistics

According to CHP’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), two people were killed and 44 were injured due to motorcycle accidents in the unincorporated areas of Orange County. During that same year, there were 17 fatalities and 735 injuries sustained in motorcycle crashes throughout Orange County.

What Caused This Collision?

This news report raises a number of questions. What had caused the car to become disabled in the freeway lane? Was the car’s driver unable to move the vehicle out of the lanes of traffic? Did the driver of the disabled car have its hazard lights turned on? Was the motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed, which prevented him from stopping in time? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine what led to this injury crash.

Liability Issues

In such cases, victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the crash, stay on top of the official investigation and make sure that the victims’ rights are protected.
