Tire Blowout Causes Riverside Car Accident

At least one person was injured in a Riverside car accident involving three vehicles, which officials say, was caused by a tire blowout. According to a news report in The Desert Sun, the injury car accident involved a big rig, a small car and a pickup truck. California Highway Patrol officials say the accident occurred the afternoon of March 3, 2011 on the 10 Freeway near the Monterey Avenue exit in Thousand Palms. One person was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. At least one other person had to be extricated from a vehicle, but it does not appear that the individual was injured. An investigation is ongoing.

Given the nature of this car accident, it is indeed fortunate that no one was catastrophically injured or killed. I wish the injured victim the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Car Accident Statistics

According to CHP’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 121 fatalities and 2,615 injuries involving car accidents in the unincorporated areas of Riverside County. Countywide, car accidents claimed 220 lives and injured 8,561 people during the same year.

Did a Defective Tire Cause the Accident?

If the details of this news report are accurate, it appears that a tire blowout may have triggered this chain-reaction car accident. It is not clear if the blowout was caused by a tire tread separation or some other defect in the tire. In cases where tire tread separation occurs, it becomes nearly impossible even for an experienced driver to regain control of the vehicle.

Liability Issues

If a defective tire caused this accident, then the injured victims can file a products liability claim against the tire manufacturer. In multi-vehicle collisions, it is also important to seek the counsel of an experienced Riverside personal injury lawyer before talking to insurance adjusters or attorneys for other parties. Injured victims should be wary of signing agreements or rushing into settlements without fully understanding the scope of their injuries and losses. Not many realize that once you sign a settlement agreement, it cannot be revisited, even if you sustain additional losses.

A skilled car accident lawyer will be able to analyze all aspects of the incident and make sure all negligent parties are held accountable. A knowledgeable lawyer will also be able to advise victims about how their own car insurance policy might apply to an incident where the at-fault motorist is uninsured or underinsured. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to injured victims and their families.
