One Person Killed in Buena Park Car Accident

One person was killed in a three-vehicle crash in Buena Park the morning of April 14 in which one of the drivers is suspected of running a red light. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the incident occurred at the intersection of La Palma Avenue and Stanton Avenue. Officers who responded to the scene found three wrecked vehicles.

Suspected Red Light Runner

The driver of a Honda, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene. One other person suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators believe the crash was caused by one of the vehicles traveling through a red light. It was not clear which driver had driven through the intersection against a red light. Officials also said that less congested roadways due to the coronavirus pandemic may tempt some drivers to speed or run red light or blow through stop signs.

But, officials say this can be dangerous and could have fatal consequences. Statistics show that Southern California’s roadways, which are typically congested, have been emptied out by coronavirus stay-at-home orders. While officials are seeing a decline in overall traffic accidents, they are also seeing an increase in incidents involving speeding, red-light-running and road rage.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family members and friends of the deceased victim. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Laws and Liability Issues

Coronavirus or not, motorists are required to follow the rules of the road when they drive. Motorists are required to come to a full stop at a red light. California Vehicle Code section 21453 (a) states: “A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown.”

Running a red light amounts to negligence. If you have been injured as the result of someone who was injured by a negligent driver, you have the right to seek compensation for your injuries, damages and losses. Injured victims can seek compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, pain and suffering and emotional distress. An experienced Orange County car accident lawyer will be able to guide you through what can be a complex process and help you secure maximum compensation for your losses.
