Zackary Topolewski-Jury, 21, was killed in a car accident in Newport Beach after his sports car crashed into the side of a building the night of Jan. 23. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal crash occurred at 6904 West Coast Highway. Police say a silver Mustang traveling westbound suddenly crashed through a metal fence and struck the front door of a cat shelter.

Fatal Crash

The front end of the Mustang caved in and the fence and front screen door of the shelter were also smashed, but the building did not sustain major structural damage. Police said Topolewski-Jury was the sole occupant of the Mustang. He was transported to an area hospital where he died from his injuries the following morning. Police have not said how fast the Mustang was traveling. Officials were still investigating the cause of the crash.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family of Zackary Topolewski-Jury for their tremendous loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

What Caused This Crash?

Based on this news report, it is not clear precisely what caused the vehicle to crash in this manner. There are still a number of unanswered questions here. How fast was the vehicle traveling at the time of the crash? Was there some type of vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction that may have caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle? Was some other vehicle involved, but left the scene of the crash? In such cases, surveillance camera footage and eyewitness testimony can be extremely valuable in terms of piecing together information, which could help determine what or who caused this crash.

Families of deceased crash victims in such cases would be well advised to retain the services of an experienced Newport Beach car accident lawyer who will stay on top of the official investigation and make sure their legal rights and best interests are protected.

It would also be a good idea to preserve the vehicle in its current crashed state so an expert can thoroughly examine it to determine if any vehicle defects, design flaws or other malfunctions played a part in the crash. If that was the case, the automaker or manufacturer of defective vehicle parts can also be held responsible for the damages and losses.
