Man Killed in Los Angeles Car Accident

A 45-year-old man was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after his SUV crashed into a disabled vehicle on the 101 Freeway the morning of June 1, 2010. According to a KTLA News report, the fatal car crash occurred in the southbound lanes of the freeway, near Highland Avenue, and involved three vehicles.

Collision Proves Fatal

California Highway Patrol officials said they got a call about a crash between a Nissan and a black Chevrolet Tahoe. The driver of the Tahoe got out of the vehicle and waited on the shoulder for authorities to arrive when a silver Lexus RX300 slammed into the disabled Tahoe, which was apparently blocking the two right lanes of the freeway. The driver of the Lexus was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.

My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved this deceased victim for their tragic and devastating loss. I offer my deepest sympathies to his grieving family. It is indeed fortunate that no one else was injured in this multi-vehicle crash.

Los Angeles Car Accidents

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 268 fatalities and 25,588 injuries involving car accidents in Los Angeles. Countywide, 667 people died and 52,229 were injured as a result of car accidents in 2008.

Causes and Claims for Compensation

This news report does not clearly state what caused the driver of the Lexus to crash into the disabled Tahoe. There are still several unanswered questions here. Was the driver of the Tahoe or the Nissan under the influence? In other words, was the initial collision caused by a drunk driver? How fast was the driver of the Lexus going? Was there sufficient lighting in the area, or was it dark at the time of the collision? I trust officials are asking these and other questions in an attempt to determine the exact cause of the crash.

In such cases, the families of victims would be well-advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the crash, stay on top of the official investigation, and make sure that the rights of the victim’s family are protected. In cases where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, families of deceased victims could file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation to cover funeral expenses, lost future earnings, loss of love and companionship, and other related damages.

What are some of the precautions you would take on the freeway if your vehicle stalls?
