Fresno Car Accident Injures Four

Four people were injured in a Fresno car accident after two vehicles collided head-on. CBS 47 reports the injury crash occurred the night of October 3, 2010 on Jensen Avenue near Dickenson Avenue in Fresno County. Police officials say a Mercury Sable was traveling east on Jensen when the driver of a Honda Accord crossed into opposing traffic lanes and crashed head-on into the Sable. The driver of the Honda sustained moderate injuries as did two passengers in the Sable. The female driver of the Sable suffered minor injuries, but was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. Police investigators found beer cans scattered at the scene, but have not determined which vehicle they were from.

My thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this Fresno car accident. I wish them all a complete and speedy recovery.

Fresno Alcohol-Related Accidents

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 55 people were killed and 444 were injured due to DUI collisions in Fresno County. Also, countywide, 127 fatalities and 3,233 injuries were reported as a result of all car accidents during the same year.

DUI Law

Driving under the influence in California is a serious offense. According to California Vehicle Code Section 23152 (a): “It is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle.”

Liability Issues

Based on this news report, it was the driver of the Honda Accord who entered into opposing lanes of traffic and caused the collision, although the driver of the Sable was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. I trust officials are still looking into whether the driver of the Accord was impaired, distracted, speeding or driving recklessly at the time.

Injured victims in such cases would be well-advised to consult with an experienced Fresno personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the accident and make sure that the negligent parties are held liable. Car accident victims could seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of earnings, cost of hospitalization, physical therapy and other related damages.
