Man Suffers Head Injury in Santa Ana Pedestrian Accident

By

A man was critically injured in a Santa Ana pedestrian accident the night of October 19, 2016. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the major injury collision occurred near the intersection of Warner Avenue and Shelton Street. Police say the pedestrian, a 55-year-old man, was crossing Warner Avenue when he was hit. He was transported to an area hospital as a critical trauma patient as he had suffered a serious head injury. But he was reported to have been in stable condition.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Officials don’t believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The driver was not cited or arrested. Officials are also looking into whether the pedestrian was in a crosswalk when he was struck. The investigation is ongoing.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to this injured victim. We wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Pedestrian Accident Head Injuries

Pedestrians often suffer serious head injuries particularly when they collide with vehicles. Usually, in vehicle versus pedestrian accidents, we see that the higher the speed, the greater the injury. Pedestrians who are hit by vehicles are often thrown onto the pavement. Sometimes they are thrown up in the air and strike the windshield of the vehicle that hit them. When pedestrians strike their heads against objects, be it a windshield or the hard pavement, the resulting injury to the brain can be devastating. Head injuries can be catastrophic, which means they could result in lifelong disabilities for victims.

Liability Issues

In pedestrian accident cases, a thorough investigation is required in order to determine fault and liability. When a motorist fails to yield the right of way to a pedestrian at a crosswalk, for example, he or she could be held liable for the injuries and damages caused. There are also some cases when a pedestrian accident occurs because of a dangerous roadway or intersection. In such cases, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway can also be held liable.

Injured pedestrians can seek compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitative treatment, permanent injuries, disabilities and pain and suffering. Victims in such cases would be well-advised to contact an experienced Orange County car accident lawyer who will stay on top of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.
