Motorcycle Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2013 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were no fatalities, but 10 injuries reported as a result of motorcycle accidents in the city of Laguna Niguel. What Caused This Fatal Crash?

Based on this news report, it appears that this motorcycle versus car collision occurred at a large intersection monitored by traffic lights. It is unclear at this time as to how this fatal crash occurred. There are several unanswered questions here. What caused the collision? Was alcohol or drugs involved? Did distracted or inattentive driving cause this crash? Did one of the motorists run a red light at the intersection? A number of motorcycle accidents are caused by drivers who fail to yield the right of way to oncoming motorcyclists while turning left or making a U-turn. Is that what occurred here. Did excessive speed play a role in this crash? We trust officials are looking into these and other questions in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

Liability Issues

In cases where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, families of deceased accident victims can file what is known as a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income, pain and suffering and loss of love and companionship.

In cases where a dangerous roadway condition caused an accident, the city or governmental entity responsible for maintaining the roadway could also be held liable. Any such claim against a governmental agency must be filed within 180 days of the incident. Victims’ families in such cases would be well advised to contact an experienced Orange County motorcycle accident lawyer who has successfully handled wrongful death claims and claims against governmental entities.
