Depuy Hip Recall Victims May Continue to Increase

By

Studies are being released which may be warning of an increase of Depuy hip lawsuits. According to the Los Angeles Times, the National Joint Registry for England and Wales said that an all-metal artificial hip once sold by Johnson & Johnson had failed in an estimated one-third of the patients who had been followed for the longest time. The reports listed Johnson and Johnson’s Articular Surface Replacement device, or the A.S.R., as having the highest failure rate. These reports have come as no surprise to the several victims who have come forward with injuries that they feel are directly related to these defective Depuy hip implants.

Depuy Hip Recall Gains Steam

Originally, the Depuy hip recall was met with some resistance, but these new reports help substantiate victim’s claims that these all-metal artificial hips are contributing to serious injuries. The hip device was marketed well, and was used in more than 93,000 hip replacement surgeries since it was first approved in 2003. Many doctors believe that the Depuy ASR hip implant may be flawed which could have resulted in the number of devices which have been seen to loosen. Many times this results in painful revision surgeries and potentially toxic chemicals being let loose inside the patient’s body.

While heat concerning the Depuy knee replacement continues to rise, similar artificial knees are also being put in the hot seat. According to the Los Angeles Times, while traditional artificial hips typically last 15 years or more before they need to be replaced, some of the all-metal models are failing in large numbers of patients within just a few years. It should be noted that the highest rates are amongst the Johnson and Johnson A.S.R. device which has seen 29 percent replacement rate amongst those in the British group report.
