Los Angeles Car Accident Causes Injuries

By

One person was injured in a Los Angeles car accident after a high-speed collision on the 134 Freeway the night of February 16, 2011. According to a City News Service report, the injury car accident occurred on the freeway near San Fernando Road when a Nissan Maxima travelling at more than 100 mph crashed into the center divider and then struck an SUV. The SUV flipped over and one person was hospitalized with unknown injuries. California Highway Patrol officials are investigating the cause of this car accident.

My heart goes out to the injured victim of this car accident. I sincerely hope he or she makes a speedy and complete recovery, and that the injuries are not major or catastrophic.

Car Accidents

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were six fatalities and 725 injuries involving Glendale car accidents. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 667 people died and 52,229 were injured in car accidents during the same year.

Speed Was a Factor

Based on this news report, speed may have been a significant factor in this car accident. Officials say the Nissan was traveling at 100 mph or more right before the accident. California Vehicle Code Section 22350 (Basic Speed Law) states: “No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic and on surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.” Also, under California Vehicle Code Section 22348, driving at a speed of 100 mph or more is an infraction.

Fault and Liability

I trust officials are also looking into whether the driver of the Nissan was under the influence at the time of the accident. In such cases, the at-fault motorist could be held liable for injuries, damages and losses caused. Injured victims could seek compensation for medical expenses, loss of earnings, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation, physical therapy and other related damages.

Car accident victims would also be well-advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and make sure that the negligent parties are held liable. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to injured victims and their families.
