By

Christian Hansen Gunn, 57, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident after the 2002 Nissan Sentra in which he was a passenger collided head-on with another vehicle on State Route 18. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Gunn was traveling north on Route 18 in the Nissan, and near Old Waterman Canyon Road, the morning of May 29, 2010. At the time a Dodge Neon traveling in the southbound lane struck the Nissan. Police say the driver of the Dodge Neon was street racing at the time and caused the collision. Gunn died at the scene of the accident. The Nissan’s driver and two other people in the Dodge were transported to a local hospital with injuries.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Christian Hansen Gunn for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. I also wish the injured victims in this crash the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Car Accident Statistics

Laws Relating to Street Racing

In California, racing on a public street or a highway is illegal. California Vehicle Code section 23109 (a) states: “A person shall not engage in a motor vehicle speed contest on a highway. As used in this section, a motor vehicle speed contest includes a motor vehicle race against another vehicle, a clock, or other timing device. For purposes of this section, an event in which the time to cover a prescribed route of more than 20 miles is measured, but where the vehicle does not exceed the speed limits, is not a speed contest.”

Claim for Compensation

In cases where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, families of deceased car accident victims can file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault party seeking compensation to cover medical or funeral expenses, lost future earnings, loss of love and companionship, and other related damages. Injured victims can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, cost of hospitalization, physical therapy, pain and suffering and other damages. An experienced California personal injury lawyer will be able to better advise injured victims and their families about their legal rights and options in such cases.
