Child Injured in Anaheim School Bus Crash

By

A child was injured in a bus accident after a school bus and a pickup truck crashed at an Anaheim intersection. The Orange County Register reports that the injury collision occurred the morning of April 23, 2010 at the intersection of Mira Loma Way and Lawrence Avenue. The bus, which was headed to Rio Vista Elementary School with 80 children on board collided with a Toyota Tundra at the intersection. One student was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries. California Highway Patrol officials are investigating the incident.

I hope the child who was hurt in this crash did not suffer major injuries. I wish him or her the very best for a quick and full recovery. It is also fortunate that no one else was injured in this school bus crash.

School Bus Accidents

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), between 1996 and 2006, 96 crashes occurred, nationwide, in which at least one occupant of a school bus died. More than 50 percent of those crashes involved another vehicle. In the 41 single-vehicle crashes, 46 occupants, 14 drivers and 32 passengers died. In 53 percent of all crashes involving fatalities to occupants of school bus, the principal point of impact was the front of the vehicle.

Causes and Liability Issues

From this news report, it is not very clear who had the right-of-way at that intersection at the time of the collision. If the driver of the pickup truck was at fault, then he or she could be held liable for the injuries and damages caused. If the school bus driver was at fault, the bus company and possibly, the school district, could be held liable.

Victims and their families in such cases would well-advised to contact an experienced California bus accident lawyer, who will help protect their legal rights and best interests. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive claim evaluation to injured victims and their families.
