San Francisco Area Car Accident Seriously Injures Motorcyclist

By

David Roberts, 53, sustained major injuries in a San Francisco car accident after his motorcycle was struck by another vehicle as he attempted to pass it. According to a news report in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, Roberts was riding a 2006 Harley-Davidson on Adobe Road in East Petaluma the afternoon of March 14, 2010 behind a 2005 Honda Accord.

The driver of the Honda, 58-year-old Nancy Legg, was slowing down before her turn when Roberts started to pass her on the left. When Legg turned left into a driveway, the motorcycle and the car collided. The motorcycle went into the dirt shoulder of the road. Roberts was transported to an area hospital with major injuries. His passenger, Jacqueline Roberts, also 53, was hospitalized with moderate injuries. Legg and her passenger were uninjured.

I hope and pray that both David and Jacqueline Roberts make a speedy and complete recovery from their injuries. They will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics

Accident Causes and Liability Issues

Based on this news report, it is not clear exactly how or why this major injury collision occurred. This may have been the motorcyclist’s fault if he attempted to make an unsafe pass at the time of the accident. However, if this accident was the driver’s fault, then she could be held liable for the accident and injuries caused. If a dangerous or defective roadway condition caused the accident, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining this roadway could be held liable as well.
