Three people were injured in a San Diego car accident after a school bus rear-ended a van and crashed into a house in the Emerald Hills area the afternoon of October 21, 2009. According to a news report in the San Diego Union-Tribune, the school bus had no children on board. Police say the bus initially crashed into the back of a van stopped at the intersection of Guymon Street and Euclid Avenue and then veered into the house. The van’s occupants — a 44-year-old woman and her 9-year-old son – were taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries and to be evaluated. The occupants of the home were thankfully not in at the time of the crash. Police investigators say the bus driver may have lost control of the school bus because of a seizure or some other medical condition.
I’m relieved that there were no children on the school bus and that there was no one home at the house at the time of this horrific crash. This could’ve turned out a lot worse. I hope the injured victims recover quickly and completely. They will be in my prayers.
San Diego Car Accident Statistics

In San Diego County as a whole, 268 deaths and 14,641 injuries were reported involving car accidents in 2007.
Based on this news report, it appears that the bus accident may have occurred because the school bus driver lost control of the vehicle. We do not know if this was the result of any preexisting medical condition such as a seizure. In any accident involving a school bus, drivers are required by state law to submit to a blood test to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a part.
