Eight people, including two deputies, were injured Saturday in a Los Angeles car accident. The Contra Costa Times reported that the multiple car collision took place at about 11:47 a.m. near the Fairplex in Pomona.
Police said two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies were in a patrol car headed south on White Avenue when they collided with a red Honda Civic. The driver of the patrol car then lost control and crashed into six vehicles that were entering the Fairplex.
The two deputies suffered broken femurs and were taken by medical helicopter to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center for treatment. The other people were also taken to nearby hospitals for treatment and officials said that none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
I’m thankful that such a serious car accident did not result in any fatalities. I join the friends and families of all those involved in praying that their loved ones recover soon.
Los Angeles Car Accident Statistics
According to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 387 people were killed and 50,262 were injured in car accidents in all of Los Angeles in 2007. With regards to Pomona car accidents, seven people were killed and 833 were injured in the same time period.
I understand that the Pomona Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is looking into the multiple-car accident. Even while they are investigating Saturday’s collision though, I would suggest that those injured consider consulting a California personal injury lawyer.
There are many questions to answer in the above case. For example, why did the patrol car collide with the Honda Civic? Why did the patrol car lose control after the collision? Because the accident involved local government law enforcement and multiple people, the need to answer these questions becomes even more urgent.
