A man in his 30s suffered fatal injuries in a bicycle accident after he was struck by a sedan. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the incident occurred when the man was riding his bike along La Palma Avenue just west of Moody Street the night of March 13, 2017. The 18-year-old driver of the sedan stopped and called 911.

It is not clear if the bicyclist was using a crosswalk at the time of the accident. Police don’t believe alcohol or drugs were factors. The female driver was not cited or arrested. The bicyclist died from his injuries at an area trauma center. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact La Palma police at 714-690-3368.

A man sustained a head injury in a Newport Beach bicycle accident after an SUV struck him near a street intersection. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury crash occurred the night of February 20, 2017 on Westcliff Drive just before Rutland Road. Police said both vehicles were traveling eastbound on Westcliff near Rutland when they collided for unknown reasons. The bicyclist, a man in his 40s, was hospitalized with head trauma. However, the nature and extent of his injuries is not known. No citations or arrests were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

A man was killed in a bicycle accident in Stanton after a vehicle struck him at the intersection of Chapman Avenue and Beach Boulevard early morning on January 18, 2017. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene before officers arrived at the scene. The victim was transported to an area trauma center where he died shortly afterward.

A little later, Garden Grove police made a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the description of the suspected hit-and-run vehicle. The driver was detained and questioned, but not arrested. Officials said the investigation is ongoing to determine if they have the “right guy.” Investigators are also not sure yet if the bicyclist was using the crosswalk or if the driver might have run the red light.

Saul Lopez, 15, a 10th grader at Vaughn Charter School was killed in a bicycle accident in Pacoima. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the fatal collision occurred the morning of November 15, 2016 at the corner of Glenoaks Boulevard and Vaughn Street. Lopez was riding his bike to his school when a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup truck, which was southbound on Glenoaks Boulevard collided with a 2006 Chevy pickup headed east on Vaughn Street.

The impact sent both trucks in a southbound direction where the Dodge struck the boy, who was riding west in the south crosswalk at the intersection. Lopez was pinned under the Dodge. It is not clear which truck had the right of way. Both motorists stopped at the scene and cooperated with police and neither was arrested. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Valley Traffic Division at 818-644-8000.

Cairo Joseph Castaneda, 42, of North Hollywood, was killed in a bicycle accident in Studio City the morning of April 5, 2016. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Daily News, Castaneda was cycling west in the 12000 block of Ventura Place when he entered the intersection at Radford Avenue. He was struck by a privately-owned trash truck. Castaneda was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials are still looking into what caused this fatal collision. No citations or arrests were reported. The incident is under investigation.

A man was killed in a Santa Ana bicycle accident the evening of January 25, 2016. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal bike crash occurred at 17th and La Bonita streets. Police arrived at the scene and saw the man lying in the street. A vehicle was traveling on 17th Street in an unspecified direction when it struck a man on a bicycle who was crossing the street. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Kevin Jiang, 9, was killed in a bicycle accident in Irvine after he was struck by a van while riding his bike home from school. According to a report in The Orange County Register, the fatal bicycle accident occurred at Roosevelt and Bay Tree the afternoon of November 20, 2015. Neighbors have posted handmade signs at the intersection pleading with drivers to slow down at the location.

Police say Roosevelt usually has many children walking to Cypress Village Elementary School where Kevin was a student. The Irvine Police Department is investigating the crash.

This tragic crash has apparently struck a nerve in the community. Hundreds of mourners gathered the night of November 22, 2015 in the Cypress Village neighborhood, just down the street from where the boy was struck and killed.

Bicycle AccidentRobert Castorena, 51, was fatally crushed in a car accident in Carson after a shipping container fell off a truck and on him.

According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times, the accident happened the evening of October 28, 2015 north of the 405 Freeway next to a shipping container yard on a stretch of road that is a designated route for truckers.

Bicycle AccidentA female driver has been arrested following a hit-and-run bicycle accident in West Covina, which left a man dead.

According to a KTLA news report, the collision occurred late night on October 26, 2014 in the area of South Valinda Avenue and East Merced Avenue.
