California Highway Patrol officials say the motorcyclist and a car collided head-on near Loma Ridge Trail.

Our thoughts and prayers are with this seriously injured motorcyclist. We wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

OC Motorcycle Accidents

According to the CHP’s 2011 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were two fatalities and 38 injuries in the unincorporated areas of Orange County.

Countywide, 18 people died and 796 were injured as a result of motorcycle accidents during the same year.

What Caused This Collision?

Based on this news report, it appears that the motorcycle and the other vehicle collided head-on on Santiago Canyon Road near the intersection of Loma Ridge Trail. Santiago Canyon Road is a winding road, which requires the highest level of alertness from all motorists.

There are a number of unanswered questions here.

Did the other vehicle make an unsafe turn in front of the motorcyclist? Did one of the vehicles veer into opposing lanes of traffic? Did alcohol or drugs play a part? Was one of the drivers distracted or inattentive? Did excessive speed or reckless vehicle operation play a part in this major injury crash?

We trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

Fault and Liability

If the driver in this case is determined to have been at fault, he or she can be held liable for the injuries, damages and losses caused. In such cases, injured victims can seek compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, permanent injury, disabilities, pain and suffering and emotional distress.

Injured victims would also be well advised to contact an experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer who will stay on top of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights are protected.
