Seven Injured after South Los Angeles Nail Salon Crash

By

Seven people were hurt after a car plowed through the window of a busy South Los Angeles nail salon, The Associated Press reports. Police say about a dozen people were in the salon just after 2 p.m. on July 30, 2013 when a car crashed into the business. The driver apparently tried to back out and get away, but that he did not get far because his car was badly damaged.

The driver also acted “aggressive” when people tried to get him to exchange information, witnesses said. The car came about 10 feet into the storefront and hit a woman who was picking her nail color at a display near the front of the store, according to the AP report. No other vehicles were involved and no arrests were reported. None of the injuries is believed to be life-threatening.

It is indeed fortunate that no one was critically injured or killed in this crash. I wish the injured victims the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Los Angeles Car Accidents

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2010 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 219 fatalities and 24,561 injuries involving car accidents in the city of Los Angeles. Countywide, 530 people died and 50,513 were injured due to traffic accidents during the same year.

Causes and Compensation Issues

Based on this news report, it appears that the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the store. There are still several unanswered questions here. Was the driver under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs? Was the driver distracted or fatigued at the time? Did driver inattention cause the crash? Was there a mechanical problem with the vehicle? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

If the driver is determined to have been at fault, he can be held liable for the injuries and damages caused. Injured victims can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering and economic distress. Injured victims will also be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable.
