Costa Mesa Motorcycle Accident Proves Fatal

By

Aaron Dobine, 27, of Laguna Niguel, was killed in a motorcycle crash in Costa Mesa after losing control of his motorcycle. According to a news article in The Orange County Register, the fatal accident occurred the evening of September 10, 2012. California Highway Patrol officials say Dobine was riding a 2010 Harley-Davidson and was making his way from the southbound 405 Freeway to the 73 toll road when he lost control and hit the center median. Dobine was thrown from his motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries. Investigators suspect that Dobine may have been traveling at a high rate of speed. At this time, they do not believe other vehicles were involved. The investigation is ongoing.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Aaron Dobine who are mourning this terrible loss. I offer my heartfelt condolences to them.

OC Motorcycle Accident Statistics

According to CHP’s 2010 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were no fatalities, but 43 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in Costa Mesa. During the same year, 19 people died and 750 were injured due to motorcycle accidents in Orange County.

What Caused This Fatal Crash?

Based on this news account, it is unclear as to what caused Dobine to lose control of his Harley. There are several questions that remain here. Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction in the motorcycle? Was the accident caused by a defective auto part? Did a dangerous condition on the roadway such as a pothole or uneven pavement lead to this fatal motorcycle crash? Were any other vehicles involved? For example, was Dobine’s motorcycle cut off or run off the roadway by another vehicle? I trust these are some of the issues investigators are examining in order to determine the facts of this case.

Contacting a Motorcycle Accident Lawyer

In such cases, families of deceased victims would be well advised to contact experienced Orange County motorcycle accident lawyer, who will take immediate steps to preserve the evidence including the motorcycle and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. If a dangerous roadway condition caused the accident, the governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway can also be held liable. Under California Government Code Section 911.2, any personal injury or wrongful death claim against a governmental entity must be filed within 180 days of the incident.
