Anaheim Car Accident Leaves Two Injured

By

Two people were injured in an Anaheim car accident after a two-car collision at a street intersection, the morning of September 19, 2011. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury collision occurred at the intersection of Magnolia and Greenbrier avenues. Officials say that a male driver of an Acura Legend that was southbound on Magnolia attempted to make a left turn onto Greenbrier when the vehicle collided head-on with a northbound Mazda MPV. Two persons suffered injuries here and were hospitalized. The extent of their injuries is not yet known as the investigation continues.

My thoughts and prayers are with the two injured victims of this Orange County car accident. I wish them both the very best for a complete and speedy recovery.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 23 people were killed and 1,970 were injured in Anaheim car accidents. During that same year, there were 141 fatalities and 13,373 injuries reported involving Orange County car accident.

The Law Relating to Left Turns

Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the Acura may have made an unsafe left turn in front of the Mazda. Officials are still looking into who had right-of-way at the time. California Vehicle Code Section 21801 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to the approaching vehicles until the left turn or U-turn can be made with reasonable safety.”

Liability Issues

If the driver of the Acura is determined to have been at fault, he could be held accountable for the resulting injuries, damages and losses. Injured victims in such cases can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation, and other related damages. Car accident victims would be well-advised to contact an experienced Anaheim personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable.
