What Are My Rights After a Car Accident?

If you've been involved in a Salt Lake City Car Accident, then you know first hand how difficult and confusing it can be to deal with the car insurance companies. One of the most common frustrations is simply understanding what your rights are as the victim. Utah (along with 11 other states) is a no fault state. This means that your own car insurance automatically has at least $3,000 available for medical bills; no matter who was at fault for the accident. This no fault coverage also covers some lost wages and helps with ordinary household services. If the accident was not your fault, then the at-fault driver's insurance company will reimburse your car insurance company for these expenses.

Common Ailments Affecting Seamen and other Offshore Workers

The following is a guest blog post from the Texas Maritime Lawyers of Schechter, McElwee, Shaffer & Harris, L.L.P. regarding common ailments and injuries affecting injured seamen and other offshore workers.

Over the past five years, maritime workers have experienced an uptick in cardiovascular diseases and infectious diseases such as MRSA, Hepatitis and even Leprosy. Despite our technological advances as a society providing access to more health information, healthy practices can be harder to come by. Sometimes, in an offshore setting, this can be because adequate medical care is not immediately available. Additionally, work at sea is extremely physically demanding.

Secret Speed Traps in Huntington Beach

One of the leading causes of Huntington Beach car accidents is speed. To reduce the number of car accidents caused by speeding cars, police have set up speed traps where they find vehicles violating posted speed limits. The following locations have all been reported as speed traps.

Heil Avenue Between Bolsa Chica and Algonquin Street

An elderly man was hospitalized in 2007 after a vehicle collided with him causing head trauma. The injured man was rushed to the UCI Medical Center a head injury and possible internal injuries.

This is not the first accident to take place at this intersection. The posted speed limit for this location is 35 MPH. Unfortunately, a number of motorists will drive at whatever speed the neighboring cars are traveling. Whenever driving, be aware of the posted speed limit. Speed limits are designed to keep vehicles moving at a safe speed.

Governor Does Not Sign Assembly Bill 2059

Governor Schwarzenegger chose not sign Assembly Bill 2059. AB 2059 would have made it easier to hold foreign drivers accountable for the damages they cause while driving rental cars in California by allowing process to be served on the rental car company. The Governor wrote that "it does not seem reasonable or justified to simply shift that burden from the plaintiff to the rental car company."

While Schwarzenegger did say that he appreciates and understands the difficulty that exists with serving a potential defendant that lives outside the country, he was unable to sign the bill into law and returned it without his signature.

After receiving strong legislative support, sponsors of the measure intend to reintroduce this it in 2011.
