Los Angeles Car Accident Injures Three

Three people were injured in a Los Angeles car accident involving several vehicles including a Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) bus, a Lexus sedan and a tanker truck carrying transmission fluid. According to a report in the Pasadena Star-News, the collision occurred the morning of March 30, 2010 on the westbound 210 Freeway near the Sierra Madre Boulevard onramp, in Pasadena. The initial collision was between the bus and the large truck. The drivers of the truck and bus driver sustained moderate injuries. A passenger in the Lexus was also injured, but the extent of that person's injuries is not known.

My thoughts and sympathies go out to the three injured victims here. I hope the passenger in the sedan was not seriously harmed. It is indeed fortunate that there were no passengers on the bus. I wish the victims the very best for a speedy and complete recovery from their injuries.

The Best Attorney Customer Service Is Our Goal

I recently came across an article, which talks about the importance of customer service. The article specifically highlights the time, money and effort that restaurant chain, Chick-fil-A has put into enhancing the customer's experience at their restaurants. In these tough economic times when companies are cutting labor force to save money, this restaurant chain and a few others have refused to make that compromise.

Customer is King

Recently, Chick-fil-A's leadership determined that developing customer service was as important as developing their menu. In my opinion, what the restaurant chain calls "service innovation" is a great concept and one that should be embraced by the global business community. It is important to acknowledge that customer service is not just an important component of running a business, but could potentially become a "game changing component" of the marketing mix.

Happiness You Share with Someone is Joy Doubled

My long-time friend, Paul Crowe, recently sent me a story. We don't know where exactly this story came from. But it came with the promise of "changing my way of thinking" in just 37 seconds. How can you not be intrigued by something like that? So, I read on.

It talks about two men, both seriously -- possibly terminally ill -- who occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. The other man, however, had to spend all his time flat on his back. The man who was allowed to sit up had the only bed in the room that was next to a window.

Should Pit Bulls be Regulated as a Breed?

pit bullThe debate about pit bulls is getting louder in one Southern California community after a vicious dog bite incident in Fontana involving five pit bull mixes almost killed 5-year-old Destiny Colon and injured three of her siblings. Also, recently, a 3-year-old Apple Valley boy was fatally attacked by the family's pit bull. A Hesperia woman recently suffered a broken arm after her own pit bull attacked her in October. With these and other recently recorded cases, there appears to be no shortage of dog attacks involving pit bulls.

Why is that? Some say that it is not the dogs' fault. Pit bull advocates say that this breed gets a bad rap because of "neglect by irresponsible owners." However, according to a recent article in The San Bernardino Sun, many in the local community, who have witnessed vicious behavior by pit bulls and pit bull mixes, say that pit bulls have a natural "mean streak" compared to other breeds of dogs.

Mercury Insurance Wants to Increase Premiums, But Does Not Want Voters to Know about It

According to a communication I received from Consumer Watchdog founder Harvey Rosenfeld, Mercury Insurance has sued him, former Attorney General John Van De Kamp and former Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi. Why? The car insurance company wants to stop them from warning Californians in the Official State Voter Guide about the huge premium increases to come under Mercury's Prop 17 for millions of drivers.

Prop 17 is fully funded by Mercury Insurance, apparently with the goal of jacking up Californians' auto insurance premiums. Prop 17 would surcharge drivers, including soldiers, students and seniors, who have had a lapse in car insurance coverage virtually for any reason during the last five years. This would penalize even those who have had no car accidents, citations or violations.

A couple has been arrested on suspicion of murder and hit-and-run in connection with a San Bernardino car accident that killed 19-year-old Thomas Joseph Meeks and critically injured his 15-year-old stepbrother Christopher. According to a news report in the San Bernardino Sun, the couple -- Heriberto Eddie Solis, 25, and 20-year-old Glory Maria Gurrola -- was trying to escape after attempting to steal a car stereo from a vehicle at a nearby parking lot. It was during their getaway that they struck the brothers who were double-riding across the street on a bicycle.

The couple was arrested when they came into the police station to collect their 1991 Toyota Camry, which was the suspect vehicle in the Feb. 19 hit-and-run collision. Solis and Gurrola admitted to hitting the brothers, but said that they fled the scene because they were scared.

Toddler Mauled to Death in Dog Attack

Ashlynn Anderson, 4-year-old daughter of reality TV show star Jesse Browning, was the victim of a fatal dog bite incident February 28, 2010. According to an Associated Press news report, Ashlynn was found by her mother badly injured on their lawn in Astoria. The girl had been attacked by one of the family's own Rottweilers. Ashlynn was transported to a Portland hospital where she was pronounced dead. This tragic dog attack occurred just four months after animal control officers had taken a Rottweiler from the same home after it bit an adult family member. The two Rottweilers at the home have been quarantined. There is no word on whether any criminal charges will be filed against Ashlynn's parents in this case.

My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved little Ashlynn for their tragic and devastating loss. I offer my deepest condolences to her family members. Please keep them in your prayers.

When you've lost your job, your home, or have incurred a wave of unexpected medical expenses, the last thing you need is a bill collector calling you at all hours of the day and night, sending you collection notices in the mail, or contacting your friends, family members, and coworkers.

But make no mistake -- bill collectors circle like sharks in the water, waiting to strike when you're at your most vulnerable. In fact, they're placing a bet on the chance that you don't know your rights and that you don't know what constitutes illegal behavior on the part of debt collection agencies.
